Overview

The documentary "Triptych" consists of three films: 1. "In the Realm of the Chocolate King," 2. "Rievkooche Madonna," 3. "Joseph and Justice." The first film is a report on the carnival of the common people in Cologne in the spring of 1979, which culminates in the "Schull- und Veedelszög" on the day before Rose Monday. Here, fun and spontaneity reign rather than pomp and organization. The second part focuses on the women, who have their own carnival celebration with Weiberfastnacht, while the third chapter tells the story of an old and lonely man who lives only for a carnival float that he builds every year and with which he parades through the neighborhood as a celebrated hero.
