Nadya, a simple girl from a small town, accompanies her fiancé Alexei to his military service under contract. The heroine tries in vain to dissuade her beloved from dangerous work. However, the stubborn guy does not want to live in poverty and, contrary to persuasion, leaves. But the woman’s heart ached for a reason. Nadya and Nikolai are married. Alyosha irecovers with aid from nurse who is fond of him, and doctor at Moscow. He returns upon recovery, struggles to turn things back to before with his mother and Nadya. Nikolai forbids Nadia from seeing Alyosha. Petya pushes away drunk, angry and intimidating Nikolai who dies accidentally. The police investigates the siblings before Nikolai's funeral and Kira convinces the officer that the fatal incident was maliciously intended.
