Unrequited Love

Yui Sugawara and Kenji Sugawara, affectionately nicknamed "Kenken", are childhood friends who grew up as next-door neighbors in a traditional shopping district in Morioka City. Their bedrooms are so close that they can talk to each other just by leaning out of their windows. Yui lives with her mother, who works at a traditional Nambu ironware shop, while Kenken lives with his father and grandmother. For years, Yui has secretly harbored a deep, unrequited love for the slightly older Kenken. After graduating from university, the artistically gifted Kenken moves to Tokyo to work at a small design firm. Feeling overwhelmed by the crushing pressure of her own corporate job in Morioka, Yui abruptly flees her hometown and turns up at Kenken's apartment in Tokyo. While there, she is introduced to Kenken’s stylish city coworker, Suzuka (Rena Takeda), sparking a wave of painful romantic jealousy and making Yui realize how far apart their worlds have become.

Following her emotional escape to Tokyo, Yui decides to resign from her exhausting job and returns home to Morioka. To clear her mind and stay close to Kenken's family, she begins working part-time at his family's traditional tofu shop. Her quiet routine is interrupted when Kenken's former Tokyo colleague, Suzuka, suddenly travels to Morioka to visit them, forcing Yui to confront her lingering feelings and insecurities head-on. Shortly after, an unexpected crisis hits the family tofu shop, threatening its very survival. Moved by the situation and his roots, Kenken makes the life-changing decision to permanently leave Tokyo behind and move back to Morioka to save and manage the family business. As their daily lives intertwine once again in their old neighborhood, Yui is forced to make a definitive choice about her unrequited love and the future she wants to build.
